I've been a Corvette guy most of my life. Back in 1998 I saw an awesome ERA Cobra at a car show and thought to myself, "I need one of those!" Did some research, checked out a number of different Cobra replicas and decided onthe best, a SFF Cobra. Sold my 1970 Corvette LT-1 and was ready to buy one. Damn, I found a perfect 1967 Corvette. NCRS Top Flight / Duntov Award winner. Bought it and within a few weeks realized I had made a mistake. It was not a conv and it was a trailer queen ... too nice to actually drive. Sold it less than a year after I bought it. Went back to House of Cobras to look around again. Patty wanted no part of the process. I said I wanted her blessing so she reluctantly came with me to take a look. She went for a test ride with the HOC owner. She came back 15 minutes later. Her hair askew, a big smile on her face and the "Two Thumbs Up" approval sign! A short while later the royal blue/white stripe SP-500 was ours. That car opened up a new chapter in my life. More "smiles per gallon" than I had ever experienced before. And you know what? The Cobra guys are a whole lot more fun and less snooty than the Vette guys. Made a ton of new friends here in So Cal and of course, got hooked up with SCOF in Sept 2000. My favorite SP-500 memory was the first time I drove it to work (FVPD) and parked it right next to the police chief's City issued Hyundai. Nothing better than stirring the pot! Unfortunately I got caught up in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia DMV witch hunt and reluctantly had to sell SP-500 in April 2003. I instantly ordered a new Mk-III from Lance at Hillbank. I purchased the titanium / black stripe SP-1486 in May 2003 and the install was completed in July 2003. Of course I had to up grade a bit from the mild 351 W to a CHP 351/427 Stroker. Three years ago Lance invited me to bring my car to a photo shoot. What a thrill it has been to see SP-1486 in magazine ads, SPF promotional material and posters. I don't track or race my car. I'm a weekend cruiser. Nothing more fun than meeting up with a bunch of my local car buddies on the weekend and cruising PCH and BS'ing over a cup of coffee in the Starbucks parking lot.
