I designed our home with a four-car attached garage. After a time, though, it got a bit crowded. I stored my fun cars on and under two lifts but I also had two daily drivers and a tractor to house. While the lifts were handy for parking and service, they made it very inconvenient to show the cars to visitors or to take a car out for a run. Plus, I had a hard time keeping the cars dust-free, even when under car covers. So I decided to build a detached building to use as a show garage and display space for all my car related stuff. What you see here is a "standard" pole barn which I customized with a special roof design and custom windows and doors. I didn't want ugly overhead garage doors and door track systems cluttering the interior so I went with conventional out-swinging carriage doors. This allowed me to mount large photo murals on the inside of each pair of doors to commemorate the car in that bay. The floor is concrete, diamond sawn in a 4' x 4' pattern and stained to look like bluestone. A radiant floor heating system eliminates unsightly space heaters and ducts. Two storage rooms house the boiler and electric panels and create a large alcove with floor-to-ceiling windows and book shelves for my car library.
